The Key Differences Between Delta 8 & 9-THC, & CBD
Cannabinoids are one of the many different compounds found in the Cannabis plant that will react with the endocannabinoid system in your body. Of course, the most common cannabinoids known to date are CBD and THC, but others are beginning to attract attention from cannabis users including Delta 8 and Delta 9-THC.
Here the team from What’s Your Treat has highlighted all you need to know about the differences between these newer cannabinoids and CBD.
Cannabidiol (CBD) Properties
Although CBD is a psychoactive compound in the sense that it can affect your mood balance and has been known to reduce anxiety, it doesn’t boast the same chemical properties that THC does that produce a “high” or altered state when it’s consumed. The most common form of CBD comes in tinctures that can be administered by a drop on the tongue or in water. However, these days you can also find CBD in taffy edibles, concentrates, and much more as the cannabis industry expands into new markets and creates new products for consumers.
It’s important to note that these edibles solely boast CBD and none of the other cannabinoids present in the Cannabis plant.
Delta 8-THC Characteristics
Delta 8-THC is a cannabinoid that occurs in minute amounts in the cannabis plant. Recently, scientists have learned how to extract the maximum amount of it via a process known as isomerization. Unlike CBD, it does produce a mind-altering effect and has been known to increase focus and energy levels. Studies have also shown that it can help reduce anxiety, nausea, and vomiting, and stimulate appetite in medical cannabis patients.
Delta 9-THC Properties
Like Delta 8-THC, Delta-9 THC does boast more psychoactive properties than CBD and will produce a high that’s been known to be more potent than Delta 8. The level of high Delta 9 creates can produce some negative effects (anxiety, paranoia, etc.) in users that don’t have a tolerance for such a high concentration of THC. It’s most commonly taken recreationally rather than for strictly medicinal purposes, although it does boast some of the same medicinal properties as Delta 8, and CBD. But CDB will not show up on a drug test; Delta 8 and 9-THC will.
